My contract with Tarcher (an imprint of Penguin Books) has been signed, sealed and delivered! Even better, I cashed the advance check – Wahoo!
(If you’re curious about the timeline: my agent, my editor at Tarcher and I verbally agreed to the major terms in June, my agent got the first version of the contract the end of August, the contracts manager at my agency reviewed it and negoiated changes in September, I received and signed the finalized contract in mid-October and I received the “fully executed” contract and advance check on Thanksgiving Day.)
So it’s official: In early spring 2012, Penguin will publish my book Around the Writer’s Block: Using Brain Science to Write the Way You Want.
I’m meeting all my target dates for completing the manuscript, and it feels GREAT to focus on writing so much of the time. I’ve found a rhythm for this book, and I’m enjoying writing more than ever before.
In part because I have the contract, I can say “no thanks” to other options with a clear and urgent sense that this is what I’m supposed to be doing now.
It Can Be Contagious
The funny thing is that when I got really ready, when I knew in my heart that I was done farting around and it was time to get this book into readers’ hands, doors opened in unexpected places and unanticipated allies arrived.
That can and will be true for you too, once you make up your mind to act and commit to keep taking action. So ir you’re sitting on an idea, proposal, partially complete or complete book, take action today! If you want a little encouragement and support in taking action on your writing, check out my Spring Classes at the Loft (just scroll down on the linked page to find my classes).
Great News, Rosanne. I was intrigued with your work with us at St. Thomas (Cohort 59) and look forward to your future work. Congrats.

Congratulations, Rosanne! It would be exciting if you kept a timeline on the side of your blog so we can track your progress with you.

Hi Gotheca,
Thanks!
I don’t know how to keep a timeline on the blog, but I’ll check it out, and if it doesn’t take too much time away from the actual writing, I’ll do it.
